Monday, January 9 Winston Carter celebrated his 95th birthday with his wife Jackie and son, Ron, during lunch at Highlands Health Care. Everyone in the dining hall sang Happy Birthday to him and then enjoyed a piece of his birthday cake.

Longtime Bella Vista resident Winston Carter marked his 95th birthday on Jan. 9. Carter celebrated the occasion with wife Jackie and son Ron during lunch at Highlands Health Care. Everyone in the dining hall sang “Happy Birthday,” then was treated to a piece of cake.Carter has been a resident of Bella Vista since the late 1960s. He and his first wife, Margaret, enjoyed experiencing the early days of growth here in the village.
He was a charter member of Bella Vista Christian Church, having served as elder, deacon, treasurer and chairman of the board. His son, Ron, is currently the pastor at the church.
Carter also was an active member of Gideons, the Lions Club, the Bella Vista Street Committee, the Village Pride Committee and Bella Vista Crime Watch. He served as director and charter member of Bella Vista Meals on Wheels, and is a past director of Helping Hands and past director-president of the Bella Vista Townhouse Association. He was awarded the Village Pride Award in 1999.
He and Margaret were also partners in The Village Mart, a convenience store that served Bella Vista in the early days, before the coming of the large supermarkets.
After Margaret died, Carter married another longtime Bella Vista resident, Jackie Hubbard. Until recent years, they both stayed active in the village, especially at Bella Vista Christian Church.
